The Ibo island of the Quirimba Archipelago is not an easy destination to get to, but it is all worth it. Its colonial past is so beautifully preserved. The forts, mansions, harbour, church, custom house and other buildings may be crumbling a little, but they are beautiful. The island is one of the calmest places I have ever visited. There is not much to do on Ibo but relax, chase crabs, play with the kids and watch the birds. The sunsets were truly spectacular there and clarity of the air was superb. I spend a few days there, and almost got stuck as one has to arrange for transport to get back to the main African continent.
