Relatively near Beijing, there are sections of the Great Wall of China. Some of the sections have been restored to better demonstrate how the structure looked in the past, and some have been left for the forest to consume. The restored sections, popular with visitors were: Badaling, Mutianyu, and Samatai. I went to Mutianyu, but weather was so bad, that the wall was hardly visible. It was very disappointing as I wanted to see how the wall snaked along the mountains ridge. I had plans to see Badaling as well, but that day was even worse, so I skipped the idea. In Mutianyu I walked in both directions from the cable car, which is now one of the ways to climb to the wall from the car park.
