Morogoro is 190 km west of Dar es Salaam. The Uluguru Mountains form a beautiful backdrop and can be seen from everywhere in this town. Not many tourists come here. That is one of the reasons why it is an interesting place. Another reason is that there were many good picture opportunities. I could take many pictures of the people in Nugutu Village. The village chief together with some villagers have set up a cultural programme for tourists, and that pictures are being taken is part of the deal.
The cover photo of this album is of an old lady who did not want to be photographed because she thought her soul would be taken. I tried to talk with her which was quite difficult as she didn’t speak English. I then showed a picture of my husband, children and myself. She was very interested in seeing this. I gestured that she could keep this picture. She then agreed to have her picture taken, which I sent to her afterwards.
