Udupi is in west India in the state of Karnataka.
It is famous for its Krishna Temple and its biennal temple festival in January, when the temple management changes hands. Man-hauled gigantic chariots move around the temple, accompanied by a drum band and elephants. Fire crackers explode but the elephants stay quiet.
The temple is the main attraction in Udupi. There is not much else to see or to do, besides strolling the streets, avoiding wandering cows, looking at the shops and talking to people.
