Back Packer Unite
It is located about 10 minutes walk away from Independence Avenue in the heart of Windhoek. It is basic accommodation and most of the rooms are dormitories, however they do have 2 double rooms. It is more functional than pretty but has all the amenities needed - there is a pool, shared kitchen, clothes washing facilities. Not a wonderful place but if on a budget at least it's clean and in a good location (albeit located behind an electrified fence gated community). more
La Marmite Restaurant
A very eclectic restaurant that serves African food. It was a wonderful experience that merged the western love for dining outside with rural africa. We had cameroon curry served in wooden dishes. more
Bushman Art Gallery
An eclectic collection of African art and crafts. It's a wonder place to browse and look at some of the old wooden crafts. We met a friendly Englishman there that was very helpful. more
Cafe Zoo
In the heart of Windhoek is the park and in front of the zoo(they don't actaully have any animals there) is Cafe Zoo. It's a perfect place to relax after shopping or sightseeing. more
Elephant Crossing
More of a retail/coffee shop than a restaurant. The items sold were a bit unusual and very classic. The coffee area was elegant and the reds brought it to life. more

Cardboard Box Backpackers
This is arguably the best place to stay in Namibia. The Box's bar is always full, and amongst the most popular of all bars in Windhoek. When I visited, a Great Chief of the northern territories (a governor) stayed there as well! The place has a swimming pool, and a few private rooms. The travel agent situated on the premises can organise any type of holiday and activities in Namibia and South Africa. Absolutely fabulous. more

8$ for a dorm or 5$ for camping. Close to the city center. safe, clean, with a swiming pool, rooms, bar, stelite tv, cool place. Also a great travel agency. more
