The Hague or Den Haag is the political capital of the Netherlands. The city is built around the castle of the counts of Holland, these days surrounded by the Binnenhof, Inner Court, location to the parliament building.
The city is home to the International Court of Justice whose seat is in the Vredespaleis (Peace Palace). The city centre is characterised by 17th 18th and 19th century mansions built for the aristochrasy. These days embassies and banks occupy these premises.
The bustling centre has a multitude of designers stores and antique shops. Be sure to include into your visit Museum Mauristhuis (15th -18th cent Old masters) and the Gemeentemuseum for modern art.
Scheveningen is the seaside suburb and easily reached by tram. Get off half-way to visit the miniature town of Madurodam.
