Very interesting Jorge and reminds us that every nation and culture has it's own specialities. Even in the modern western world we have strange delicacies: Boiled Pork Knuckle, Liver, raw mince, Haggis, Blutwurst(blood), Bulls Testicles, snails, frogs and more. Others mix things like peanut-butter on pancakes, salted fruit or spagetti-(looking)-icecream. What a lot of us eat is to others disgusting but even taboo: beef or pork for various religions, meat entirely for vegetarians.

"Bon Appetit"

At cattle brandings, bull calves are castrated and the testicles are quick fried on the branding kettle that is used to keep the brands hot. They are referred to as Rocky Mountain Oysters.

Gilroy, the garlic capitol of the world, offers Garlic Ice Cream, Garlic Gems (chocolate covered garlic) and garlic taffy.

Yum!

Well, I would add some Chinese delicacies.

Sugarcane Shrimp, shredded chicken, Baoxu Rice Cake etc.

And also many kinds of fruits.

If you want to try these food. The Asian food festival will be a good chance for you.

The Asian food festival, with the International Folk Song Arts Festival and China-ASEAN Expo wil be held in Nanning, Guangxi in China from Oct 29 to Nov 6.

Here you can enjoy various Asian delicacies. If you are a gastronomist, it will be a good chance to try all kinds of Asian delicacies.

In South Africa, there is very little that compares to a 'Braai'.

Ingredients:

2 bags of charcoal

10 cases beers and wine

As many Pork Rashers/ Rib chops, Texan Steaks and Boerewors that you can get

KrimelPap (Or for the ex Rhodies, Sadza)

Salads to calm the stomach ulcer down

A touch of the SA weather

And plenty of friends to share it all!

PS don't forget the onion and tomato gravy that needs to go over the KrimelPap.

Boerewors is a sausage made in a variety of flavours. My favourite is the Cheese Wors which is juicy and very tasty when done on the braai.

PPS and if you can get your hands on a few Crayfish to braai - all the better!

I found this funny video clip about airline food. Didn't we once have a special forum thread for "airline food"? So, posted this here. Enjoy:

Well this of course is a minor extension of the philosopy that Ryanair used in their initial advertising of cheap flights which have revolutionised air traffic in Europe. It is an example of the extreme point in strategy formulation -"What business are we in?" (airtransport or catering)

Very well pointed out Hugh! In the "other" forum I now remember remarking that I would rather pay less for a flight than have a fancy meal at 30,000 feet! [What happened to that forum thread, did an airline pay for it to be removed?]
