Hii friends,I am always in confusion as which pictures to be uploaded,

1.the one which I have taken myself or/

2.the one which some one else has taken and it is there with me or

3.the one I get on my personal mails.

Ravi,

By no means am I the final authority. However, when I first joined Globo, someone at the site deleted several pictures that I posted and sent me a notice that certain pictures were not to be accepted. Those included pictures that the adjudicator thought were too personal or not travel related. Now, there is such a large volume posted on some days that those judging the appropriateness of the photos do not have the time to keep up. In the Travel Photography forum are several strands concerning the rating of photos (I think that there may be a strand in the Globo intern forum, as well). These give very interesting opinions from other members on how the photos are rated. I believe that the general rules are as follows:

The photos should be:

1. Travel, or travel-related.

2. Showing some aspect of an area of travel or the local residents of areas to which we have ventured.

3. showing some aspect of a natural wonder or special feature of an area to which we have traveled.

Photo areas that are usually not accepted include religious photos, postcards, personal photos, and photos that we did not take.

Photos are usually rated very low when someone has a photo such as "Me in front of ..." or other such pictures. I have seen some exceptions to this that were rated higher because of the overall quality of the picture, but it has been rare. Also, I notice that pictures with time stamps or with other photo-editing (such as titles within the photo) are usually rated lower.

As I said, these are my observations and experiences from the items that I have submitted. Good luck.

Hi Ravi, Russ,

It is interesting to read your views regarding fotos people upload. After viewing fotos here and almost 6 other fotography/travel sites (I am a member of) I have lost faith in the points awarding system altogether. The way people judges and award points to pictures varies vastly. I am certain that some of the pictures we see entered in these sites(Globosapiens included) are not taken by the people who enter them (in some cases I think it is someone else's fotos down loaded or postcards scanned) and for the regulators it is naturally impossible to check all these fotos as the member number and the number of fotos increase. For me the ultimate aim of being a member of these sites (Globo included) is to get the attention of a wide spectrum of travel minded people from around the globe and show them how good Kerala is as a tourist destination and also to acquire wonderful friends from around the world (at times there are a few who ignores my friendly messages etc (interestingly even from England)). I am happy that I am achieving it irrespectve of the starred ratings of my fotos. There are certan rules I personally follow while posting pictures here and at the other sites viz:

1) I only upload the fotos taken by myself

2) I never enhance any of my images using computer (I have no technical skills to do that anyway) and

3) I never include myself or my family in any of the fotos I upload.

Finally let me thank all my friends at globo who left kind notes in my guestbook during my self imposed absence from the net following my dear mother's sad demise in july. I was naturally devastated and now recovered sufficiantly to increase my activities here.

Cheers,

Dear Russ ,Kris,

I am happy to read your comments ,I faced same problems when some of my pictures were deleted from the globo which was taken by me ,

I have seen many pictures from the members uploaded on Globo is present there in other websites ,I mean he/she has just copy and paste the other's picture here .

this is my main query ,that is it a normal practice to get some excellent pictures taken by some one else and put on Globo ??

I upload the pictures taken by me (some are given to me by my friend).

Hi GLOBOfolks,

I wouldnt like a copied 5-star picture to win a PoM award! Fortunately regular GLOBO members are honest.

... when I notice pictures too-good to-believe-in from new members I sometimes look a bit further. Twice I noticed that a member didnt have "photography" as a hobby/interest in their profile but all pictures were ****/*****. Using Altavista "Image" search I found those pictures on other websites entering the place name. I informed Staff and they got them removed. We have no right using other peoples pictures without their permission, serious and costly legal action could follow. Also, its is not fair to other GLOBO members. The idea about GLOBO is that we contribute our own work, ideas and experiences. This is stated below under "Terms and Conditions" Section 6 which every member should read atleast once!

I (very occasionaly) upload a picture with myself or friends in them, just to show the size of things, to break monotany or prove that I really DO travel :-) I insist on displaying some of vthese and dontmind them being rated * or **. These are not taken by myself but by others UNDER MY DIRECTION. I have originals and negatives for all my pictures. Perhaps a postcard or travel company might find a worthy picture of mine to print one day (some members have experienced this), it would be embarassing to say then that the pic was copied from elsewhere!!! On the other hand, if someone sees/finds our GLOBO pictures on another websites or in magazines, please let us or staff know - they were likely either stolen from us or need to be payed for! Perhaps we could all help each other with this.

We do not have such a warning, at least that I have read. However, all of this has been discussed in the travel photography forum. I always recommend that new members (actually all of us) read the ideas in the fora so that they can put out the best product. It is great that you have the interest in further understanding what others see and do not see.

As always, it is great to see all of the contributions.

... they should read "Terms and Conditions" first(see link at the bottom of the page), that will prevent 99% of the problems!
