Sometimes it simply has to be France - or at least, Wissembourg en Alsace, directly situated at the German French border. We can go there from our home by car in about 1 h (80 km) or with a ticket of our local traffic system by tram and train (about 2 h one way):
€ 19,50 for 5 persons, roundtrip.
Wissembourg is a tiny town (8000 inhabitants) with a gorgeous church and some quite picturesque corners. It is nice to spend some hours there strolling around, sitting in a (perhaps open air) restaurant or café, running errands (certainly there must be some French cheeses and wines, vol-au-vents and pies like Tarte Flambée for example, perhaps some croissants, marrons aux chocolat (delicious sweets elaborately looking like chestnuts) or a Gugelhupf (a typical Bundt cake).
Please come with me and get a first impression... :)
