information about greenland  KulusukGreenland
Inuit is the common name for the people of Greenland, as well as the their language, belonging to the eskimo-aleut classification. this difficult language is polysynthetic, meaning one single word aggregates many elements of a sentence. For ex. : "I would like to go to school" is translated as "atuarfimmukarniara-luarpunga". For my own experience, I learned "Meriannguvunga", which means "I feel seasick"...

Another great portrait! Hope you hadn't to use the sentence you learnt. ;-)

I agree with your sentiments Petra or even the difference between 'learnt & learned' is there any?

mistybleu - Aug, 04 2010 03:08pm
I'm sure that would be the first phrase I would learn also....

pesu - Aug, 04 2010 03:08pm
Haha, Tony, you can ask questions... I've learned 'learnt' but this was a century ago thus it might be quite old-fashioned... ;-)

jacko1 - Aug, 04 2010 03:08pm
Petra, Amanda, there is no difference, they both mean the same!!!!

jacko1 - Aug, 04 2010 03:08pm
Ouch! I have just had my legs slapped by a greater authority: (my wife) Learnt & learned mean the same but learn-ed is to have learnt or learned, don't blame me friends, I'm a Cockney:-)

hey friends, nice to see that inuit language can generate such subtil exchanges! and , no Petra, I did not use it..but still keep in mind.. knowing how to say "I feel seasick" in greenlandic could be useful in the Oman Sultanate ! who knows ... ;-)
