This time looking west from Thurso towards Scrabster, there is a ferry terminal here where you can sail to Stromness, Orkney.
Thurso's origins date back to the Picts, the original inhabitants, but it was the Vikings who gave the town it's name, derived from the old Norse word Thors-a (Thors River).
