China's impressions

Posted: 2009-08-07 06:23 AM
Hi Rafal,

Thank you for your note. First of all I am happy to have left China in one piece. I did expect pollution and crowds in China, so there was no surprise for me about that. I was disappointed with people's attitude towards others, though, which shocked me a little. But I did see the same in India, so this was not new to me.

I really liked some of the places in China, but having been to so many different places around the world, I realise that I am now very difficult to impress. Also, I have been to many Chinatowns around the world, and our own in London is although tiny, but great, plus Hong Kong and Macau, which reduced the shock to the system about the mainland China.

This was an interesting holiday, some of which I really enjoyed. I think I would have enjoyed China had I gone to more rural places, where things would surely have been more authentic. I don't think I will be doing such trip anytime soon, however. Albeit, it will remain on the wish list.

Pozdrowienia.

Hello from London

Hello Rafal,

thank you very much for your guest book entry.

I have not been very active on globo recently - too much work, too little time, not enough travel.

We went home to Germany for a week in June, basically because we didn't have the money to go anywhere else and also, more importantly, we hadn't seen our families since September 2008!

In 3 weeks time we are going to Germany again, first to Munich for a wedding and to visit a friend, then to Cologne to visit another friend and after that home to Bad Berleburg for a week. One day we'll also be going to Frankfurt to visit my brother-in-law and his family.

As for my next 'proper' trip - we'll be going to Greece for 9 days in October, to the Peleponnese and Athens. We are planning to visit Olympia and Sparta, Mycenae and Mystras and drive through the mountains and visit an island or two. I do hope for some nice weather, this summer has been a complete wash-out over here.

Hope you keep well
All the best

Hi Rafal,

thank you for your comment. You are right and the way this country is talked about makes me angry. I found relaxed friendly people, self-confident and polite, open-minded too. I felt safe and welcome. As a woman I didn't feet threatened. Besides that it is a wonderful country.

Rafal,
Thank you for the compliment on my Hilltribe Report! It was such a terrific trip.

I have been following you on your journey! Your log is marvelous! I am currently working with my son's dance troupe on costumes from Macedonia so I have been quite interested in this part of the world!

Gracias!!

Thanks a lot for your congratulations! Yes, I do completely agree. There are already many good photographers taking good pictures and postcards of the famous places, so I just try to capture the essence of the instant and places when travelling instead of the a-million-time-shot things!

All the best!

Hi Rafal
Many thanks for your message. The award came as a total surprise but I won't pretend it was other than immensely pleasing.
Cheers
David
