Munich's Oktoberfest was first celebrated in 1810 for the marriage between King Ludwig I & his Princess Therese. The original field outside the original city walls where this festivity was celebrated still takes on her name called "Theresienwiese" or to those in living in Munich simply the "Wiesn". Only recently (after WWII) have the parades through the streets of Munich become a standard procedure of opening the Oktoberfest. There are two parades every year; on the first Saturday basically for the sponsoring breweries and folk envolved and the first Sunday for the traditional Bavarian and European Folklore Clubs and Societies. Note: Oktoberfest is not a Tourist Trap. There is no entrance fee to the festival grounds. The music and atmosphere is free of charge! Food and beer costs that which is does locally and normally through the year. I did depart with DM400 (€200) my first visit, now about €0 to €40 per visit according to mood.
