The extensive ruins of the Minoan city near Akrotiri village are easily accessed by bus from Fira, stops at the entrance. The sign suggests that the ancient city was named Akrotiri but in fact there is no recorded name and no meaningful record of its history or demise.

Note the natural landscape behind the sign - unimproved Santorini is really quite rough and scraggly, unlike the groomed areas visited by tourists.
