An iconic image of Cappadocia, the Three Sisters are three fairy chimneys (hoodoos) near Urgup featured on the reverse of the 50 ytl bill between 2005-9. Created by wind erosion of the soft underlying volcanic ash ( tufo ) with a cap of the more wind resistant basalt, fairy chimneys are the hallmark of the cappadocian landscape
