Hi Andy,

I'll do work abroad. But could you let me know what is allowed to be posted and what is not.

Links to other travel websites are not allowed, but to embassies etc are allowed, I suppose. Do we inform the person who posted if some of his post is deleted?

Hi Marianne,

I have assigned moderation status for those forums on your member account. Welcome on board :-)

You can easily identify spammers. They are doing a pretty bad job. Usually they sign up on the same day of the posting, and post into more forums with a similar message before they disapear and never show up again. Scamers usually tend to ask for email corespondence to get hold of email adresses. Just delete such posts. Everything else is wasted time.

If you see a posting made to your forums which should go into another category due to the topic, you can simply move that post to another forum.

Have fun,

Andy

I'll be finishing a short project on 2004-11-05 and be available after then, atleast till end of December, for moderation or any other kind of help you guys and dolls need at GLOBOsapiens.

Marianne,

Personally, for the time being, I do not delete spam posts but only edit them. And after doing so, I leave a message to the tune of "Unpaid advertising removed. Please check out http://www.globosapiens.net/travel-advertisement.html for information on advertising opportunities on GloboSapiens." I am hoping that this will promote a culture of no-spamming within the forum; simply removing all traces of the spam post teaches nobody anything - please tell me if you feel differently and maybe I could broaden my horizons on this matter!

And before I delete posts, I check the author's post history because sometimes the OP had really intended to share his/her experience at a good hotel, for example, and merely put in the appropriate URL. But usually you can sniff a spammer from a mile away - single post count, newly registered and straight to the (advertising) point.

Welcome aboard!

Hi Andy,

I am just wondering how the "co-moderating" works. For example I noticed that Christianj is now my co-moderator.

Do I just do as I have been doing and delete/amend as I feel is fitting or do I need to confer before doing so?

Just checking so I know I am doing the right thing!

Thanks,

Kerrie

Inzaghi , Thanks for the info. I think your method is a good way of solving the problem of spam. It may be a good idea to make this the rule for all moderators.

Kerrie, I don’t think it is very effective if we have to confer before deleting. If you spot spam first you delete it, if Christianj is first to see it he deletes it. Would all moderators agree?

Hey Moderators

Great that there are quite a few around here!

I thought Andy would have liked us to discuss these matters in this thread...

Definitely concur with Marianne. Spot it, remove it.
