{QUOTE}In short: the system should automatically award extra points for quality, not a few moody individuals.{END QUOTE}

This would be the perfect solution.

{QUOTE}If we would just get MORE members to rate, the system would become more efficient and accurate, showing which report (or picture) is better and the system (not necessarily Andy or anyone) can award extra points (and even monthly awards) automatically even when everyone is on a holiday or has no more interest{END QUOTE}

Absolutely! But how do we get more people to rate reports. Photo rating is quite satisfactory at the moment, now the reports.

Still thinking out loud. I assumed but forgot to say that the committee of 'experts' should have a rotating membership - possibly taken from the first x pages - which might create a bit of incentive to reach those pages.

I quite like Rudi's idea of equality but if we tried to draw on all the membership, some might not be willing to participate. We certainly do NOT want ANYBODY'S time to be wasted in trying to form awards committees for the month or quqrter.

I don't share in the view that a lot of people cannot be collectively wrong, by the way. Every country's history that I know about has plenty of instances to the contrary.

One solution may be that trusted pioneers, seniors, moderators, tutors and a few other trusted members get to rate double (or even triple) the points. That way one can rate rate 3,5 or 4,5, a big difference. The system can then automatically award extra points for the result. Today again I slipped up and rated something ***** that is really *** and sometimes opposite. I would also love to be able to correct that which I slipped up on and rated incorrectly because I rated too quick or slipped up on the mouse click.... Creating a second account is not a solution to correct this, begging members to add or deduct a star is a bit embarrassing.

Another idea: Award quality points to the AUTHOR of a report for each star that is given by any member who is willing to leave a comment under the report. Every ***** awarded to an often read report or top of a destination list report = 5 points. A very poor report gets only * or ** extra points and is rarely read or rated anyway. RR

Good idea but will not work for reports about obscure and not well-known places because these are read less frequently.

Marianne this works specially super for "obscure and not well-known places" like remote villages and islands. It is those that are appreciated better and rated a bit higher than the tourist capitals of the world, well, depending who writes the report and how it is written too :-) Such reports (and pics) are also easier found by search engines & attract a lot more web-traffic!

Perhaps we should simply award and extra 50 points for the first (decent) report written about a place. There are still countries in the GLOBO databank without any entries at all, not even pics! : - (
