A poll for the best Scandinavian capital would probably have Stockholm in top position. It's situation is wonderful, covering a large number of islands joined by bridges or subways, and being the port for a substantial archipelago and for international boats for Finland and the Baltics.
The old town has unfortunately become something of a tourist trap althogh it still provides an interesting venue. Howevr apart from its idyllic situation, the city has a number of major attractions. The City Hall, where a dinner is held for Nobel prize winners, is a marellous building, built using both the Itlaian Gohtic style and the National Romantic style of Sweden, somewhat akin to art nouveau.
Two museums are outstanding, Skansen, the first outdoor museum [even if the combination of a zoo with the old buildings from every part of Sweden doesn't grab you] and the Vasa Museum, purpose built to hold the 17th century warship Vasa that sank on its maiden voyage. [edit text][editors]
