Small rural secondary school with Ititu primary school across the road and down the hill. Small scale farming, coffee, maise/corn, bananas, papaya, mangos.


Rolling hills similar to parts of Pennsylvania. Eucalyptus trees, small scale coffee shambas (farms). Predominant population is Kikuyu. Accessable by matatu and bus from NairobiThikaMurang'a-GaturiKiriaini.

Favourite spots:
Lived and taught at Gaturi Girls School. The general area is temperate and comfortable.

What's really great:
Quiet. Peaceful. Simple. Kikuyu food is simple and good. Mashed potato dish called Irio. Bean and maise dish called Githeri. Cabbage or collard greens with chipati.

Accommodations:
Few accommodations.
