A Stay on the Top

  11 votes
Although I don’t gamble, Genting Highland is still a good place to be. The weather is so comforting and the scenery is breath-taking. It’s not all about the casino up here. There are so many interesting places on this mountain top besides the casinos.

We had booked 2 rooms in First World Hotel, which I think is the hotel with most number of rooms in the world, because of the low room rates compared to other hotel up there. That was the first time we went to Genting Highland despite we lives only 3 hours away. So things got a little confused when we are trying to find a parking lot. We laughed at ourselves when we found that we had been going pass the entrance umpteen times and didn’t notice it! The moment I stepped into the room, it’s like ‘Oh my gosh are we going to sleep in here for 2 nights?!’ It was so…small! Alright what do I expect to get for such a low rates. The bed was perfect and the bathroom was, well, small, but ok. After all, where can I get a room for such a low price. We had to be at the Arena of Stars at 1800, so we didn’t really have the time to explore the whole place. We went to the First World Plaza after we had buffet lunch at Tropical Café (It was so huge.), and I realized I don’t have to fly to NYC to see the Statue of Liberty. There were a mini version of the Venice and I swear I saw the Big Ben. We visited the Ripley’s shop on the first floor before heading back to our room. The next day, we woke up early and had breakfast at the spacious Tropical Café. Then we headed to the outdoor theme park. We spent the whole day there and had a really good time. My heart almost jumped out when I ride the Space Shot. There’s nothing can compare to the roller coaster ride. There were also relaxing rides like those things I called Bug Train and Pop Pop Car. As there were so much people, every ride had a long queue and sometimes we had to wait for 1 hour before it’s our turn. We went to Starbuck and chilled out with a cup of hot mocha. Considering we live in a tropical country, it was exceptionally cool up there and I was seriously thinking did I still want to go to UK for my studies. Sunday, it’s time to leave. Fortunately we weren’t lost this time and went back to KL safely.

Favourite spots:
It has to be the outdoor theme park. No matter where were you standing the view is breathtaking. (I dun hav digital camera. Sorry. Wait till I got one okay?)

What's really great:
What I like about the whole thing is the cool and fresh air. It’s not easy to relax in the busy urban city. It provides a perfect setting for people who want to run away from their hectic life. Besides, in Malaysia everywhere you go is so hot and humid. Genting Highland gives its visitors a place to really enjoy and relax. And for those who gamble, don’t just think of Las Vegas in Nevada. Come here and you will realize there were so many other things waiting for you. I didn’t regret the trip and I’m sure I’ll be here some time this year.

Accommodations:
First World Hotel for those on budget and Highland Hotel for those who have alot to spend.

Restaurants:
Do not go to fastfood restaurant. Find something local. :) For example the chinese stalls at the ground floor of First World Plaza. It might be a little bit too expensive for the locals, but what you expect? I had my dinner there during my stay. You might want to try out the Kyros Kebab, which is also situated at the ground floor.

This is a nice first report. Allow me to encourage you to write more about your travels. A couple of suggestions:
1. In your restaurant section, you mention finding something local. What are your suggestions?
2. You mention the breat-taking scenery. Add some photographs to the story and you will give meaning to your assessment of the beautiful scenery. Plus, many of the other members can give your story a higher rating.
Good luck. Keep travelling and keep adding those reports.
Russ
