--Karachi-- This city is the business capital of Pakistan. It was the capital of pakistan before Islamabad. I had a visit to this historic city during february 2006. My trip was clubbed with the historic cricket third test match between India and Pakistan

Karachi is the largest and the most populous city of Pakistan. It is located on the coast and as a result has a relatively mild climate. It has an interesting and colorful combination of the old and new. The narrow twisting lanes and alleys of the old city throb with life alongside wide metalled road and elegant modern building. Within the city, talented artisans with age old produce handicrafts of exquisite beauty. Its restaurants cater to a wide choice of Pakistani and western cuisines. Its markets and bazaars offer an endless variety of exciting shopping, including indigenous handicrafts. Particularly rugs and carpets of rare designs and beauty.

Favourite spots:
In frOnt Of Jinnah mausOleum
In frOnt Of Jinnah mausOleum
JINNAH MAUSOLEUM This mausoleum is a prominent and impressive landmark of Karachi. Near by are the graves of Liaqat Ali Khan, the first prime minister of Pakistan and the Quaid’s sister, Mohtarma Fatima Jinna.

CLIFTON BEACH Close to the popular seaside of the city is Clifton beach where Karachiites flocks on weekends and holidays. Scattered along the shore are numerous stalls selling handicrafts made from seashells. Clifton has an amusement park with a bowling alley and an aquarium.

MASJID E TOOBA It is probably the largest single dome mosque in the world. Built with pur white marbles, the central prayer hall has a capacity of 5,000 persons

HAWKESBAY is a beach in Pakistan situated a couple of kilometers away from Sandspit Beach near Karachi.

What's really great:
with a traditionally dressed karachiite
with a traditionally dressed karachiite
One can really feel the warmth and energy of Karachi if you stroll across the bizzy roads. One will notice the Traditional long dress costume of men and the beautiful "churidars" of women. The local buses which busy across the streets are well decorated with flashy and eye glittering accessories. Another thing worth mentioning is the food.. hmmm.. very very spicy n tasty. The new generation at Karachi are very much absorbed by western culture( meh didnt expect the change to that extent). Life is really busy at Karachi. I couldn move away from the city to know more about the "real" life in the interiors.

Other SpOts:

# There is a Zoological park called Karachi ZOO at Gandhi garden. Opening & Closing timings of Karachi Zoo is based on sunrise & sun set.

# National Museum of Pakistan and the Pakistan Maritime Museum are also opened for the visitors. Do check out the timings since it was closed while i visited.

#Then there is the St. Patrick's Cathedral, the Empress Market, Clifton Oyster rocks etc...

Nightlife:
Karachi Manora travelogue picture
Hmm.. if you are looking for pubs and discos then you are the wrong place. I heard this stuffs do take place in private clubs even though its prohibited by the goverment. But the restaurants do cater their delicious recipes till dawn. In short there is not much night life for the tourists as such..

Hangouts:
HUKKA- The traditiOnal smOking pipe
HUKKA- The traditiOnal smOking pipe
One can drOp in for "HUKKA". Its a traditional way of smoking using a special equipment which produces scented fumes from water. Its an interesting thing to try out. Can try the horse rides and camel rides. The ambience at the Gaddhaffi international cricket stadium is great, so if there is any match on schedule then do drop in there. You can spend the evenings at the beautiful beaches. also the shopping malls, even though not very big, is an interesting place to hang around.

Restaurants:
at Usmania- fOOd here is really worth for the mOney

Pakistani cuisine is based on curry or masala (hot and spicy) sauces accompanying chicken, lamb, shrimps and a wide choice of vegetables. Specialties include brain masala, biryani (seasoned rice with mutton, chicken and yogurt), pilao (similar but less spicy) and sag gosht (spinach and lamb curry).. Western and Chinese foods are also widely available. One can try out the food from BAR-BE-QUE, COPPER and KETTLE , The USMANIA restaurant etc..

Other recommendations:
Dont worry-- They are very friendly :-)
Dont worry-- They are very friendly :-)
The climate doesnt get too extreme there. There are many restrictions for the movement between places due to tight security reasons. One can see a lot of military people fully armed, but dont worry much about it. Dont land up in trouble by indulging in activities banned by the goverment since the rules and regulations are pretty strict out there.
