Secrets of Slovenia

Whoever experiences Slovenia will never forget it. You will remember Slovenia not only for its spectacular Postojna Cave, picturesque Lake Bled, the beautiful white horses of Lipica, the lush vineyards and the very special experience .

lake Bled
The Postojna Cave is one of the largest and most easily accessible world caves where visitors are carried by electric train. Its stalactites, stalagmites, pillars, and translucent curtains constantly create unforgettable impressions, and the underground cave waters offer shelter to a unique resident, the amphibian Proteus anguinus or human fish. Bled (501 m above sea level) is today considered one of the most beautiful alpine holiday resorts and health spas. Its beauty and peace, mild climate, fresh air, sun, and thermal water offer ideal conditions for a pleasant rest or for an active holiday, since its marvelous surroundings make possible relaxation and regeneration of lost psychophysical strength. During the long summer season, it is very pleasant to swim in the lake or in the hotel swimming pools with thermal water (28 degrees C.) and enjoy rowing, sailing, wind surfing, fishing in the lake or in alpine rivers, kayaking, canoeing, rafting, and other activities. Amid beautiful surroundings you can play golf or tennis, ride horseback in nature, go mountaineering, fly a sailplane or hang-glider, and more.

Whoever experiences Slovenia will never forget it. You will remember Slovenia not only for its spectacular Postojna Cave, picturesque Lake Bled, the beautiful white horses of Lipica, the lush vineyards, and the very special experience of its primeval forests and other interesting natural attractions but also for the hospitality and friendliness of people.

What's really great:
Cuisine and Wine Slovenia is a hospitable country which surprises its visitors with the abundance of traditional Slovenian food as well as culinary masterpieces which originated outside the country but have received a Slovenian touch. To complement our dishes there have always been excellent wines of three Slovenian wine growing regions. You can encounter all the pleasures on wine roads and in numerous traditional gostilnas*. Gostilna is the heart of the Slovenian culinary offer. Beside drinks the offer of gostilna has to include at least three dishes, which are typical of the environment or region. Gostilnas are often owned by families and mainly preserve the tradition in their offer and fittings, and in preparing homemade dishes they preserve the principles of healthy nutrition. Culinary offer is supplemented by excellent Slovenian wines, especially in the wine growing regions.

I need to read this first & foremost to recap my very early days driving through your beautiful Slovenia on my way to Zagreb and down to Spits.

This is another epic description for me on Ljubljana.

Slovenia left lovely a lovely trail of romance and sadness too as all contacts were lost after Anna at 29 yrs, befell into drug addiction which I came to learn later and since 1987, is nowhere to be traced...
Your country is so serene and yes, I would someday love to drive bck into Slovenia and now, I have a new friend to look forward to and your "shoulder-pet"... :).

Greetings from Holland,

You are right, I will never forget my visits to Slovenia. The Postojna Caves are incredible and Lake Bled was beautiful in the Winter. Thanks for your report.

Nice report, but it kind of fizzled out.... The general description and what's really great was very interesting.
