Sacramento is also known to locals as Sac Tomato or Sac Town. It was built in the early gold mining days. Then it became a city that agriculture was their main industry.

Sacramento is the capital city of California. The population of the city is about 500,000.

The city is in valley between mountains on the Sacramento River.

The people who live here are American Indian (2.8%), Asian Indian (1.2%), Black (15.5%), Chinese (4.8%), Filipino (2.1%), Hispanic (21.6%), Japanese (1.6%), Native Hawaiian & Other Pacific Islander (0.9%), other Asian (5.2%), Vietnamese (1.5%) and White Non-Hispanic, (40.5%)

There is a light rail system that costs $3.00 ($1.50 for disabled or seniors) . You can use it as one day pass good for the bus system as well.

You can't smoke in public places.

Favourite spots:
Golf Course in Lincoln Hills

The Tower Bridge is a gold color and has a draw bridge that opens when a ship is coming into one of the ports.

The climate is partially desert but the river cools the city down.

I live in a sub-berg of Sacramento called Lincoln Hills in the great state of California. It is 35 miles from downtown Sacramento.

I live here because I'm away a lot so I have a small suite in my parents home. Lincoln Hills is a nice retirement community.

In Lincoln Hills we have the Galleria of Roseville mall featuring Nordstrom, Macy's and numerous other stores.

We have discount shops like Costco, Toys-R-Us, Linen n' Things, Marshall's, World Market and Sports Authority.

What's really great:
Foie Gras at Fat City Bar & Café

Many of the military bases have closed in the United States but we are lucky to still have McClellan Air Force Base, (5507 Dudley Blvd # 910, Mcclellan, CA 95652), because they bring a lot of money to the city.

On the week-end when they have leave they seem to have a lot of fun here!

The first place I suggest you visit is the Governor's Mansion. You might see Arnold Schwarzenegger , (a Republican) and his wife, Maria Shriver , (a Decorate from the famous Kennedy family).

They will show you a lot of things but the best is when you go down into the basement! Basements are unusual in California but because of the frequent earthquakes this basement is very big. This is where you'll find the document area and the offices for volunteers. Admission price is $1.00 for adults and free for children.

In California there is a grand for stem cell research.

The State Capitol building is a 19th-century granite building that looks like the one in Washington, D. C. The California Legislature and the State Museum are within this complex. Capitol Building, Sacramento, CA.

Old Town is a square in the middle of downtown. You'll see the historic area of restored buildings, museums and novelty shops brings life to the Sacramento waterfront. Colonial Williamsburg and the Mystic Seaport captures the feeling of what Old Town is about. You'll find a lot of candy shops, (try the salt water taffy) and tourist shops here. Second Street between First and Capitol Mall, Sacramento, CA, 95814.

Sutter's Fort is downtown and surrounded by houses, apartment buildings, churches, and a hospital. It is a white brick building. Inside you'll see a collection from the gold mining days. 2701 L Street, Sacramento, CA 95816

The Mission is built with adobe walls surrounding a central yard. You can see how they made furs, (no live animals are used).

I haven't stayed at a hotel here but I suggest for a family you might like to try the Embassy Suites Sacramento. T

he hotel is on the Sacramento River across from Old Town .

Address: 100 Capitol Mall, Sacramento, California, United States 95814.

The Best Western Motel is half the price. It's down town near the State Capital.

Address: 236 Jibboom St.,Sacramento, CA 95814

If you want to stay at a more expensive hotel I think that the Hyatt Regency is across from Capitol Park and adjacent to the convention center, (1209 L St.,Sacramento, CA 95814916).

If you want a hotel close to the Convention Center and the State Capitol Complex I believe you'll enjoy staying at the Sheraton Grand, 1230 J St.,Sacramento, CA 95814).

Nightlife:

When I'm at home I like to go to a movie at night. There ate at least ten movie theater complexes and an IMAX theater, (that shows first run movies).

The K Bar is the hippest place in town. I go there some times to go dancing. I never go alone because this is a 'gay bar'. 21st and K st, downtown Sacramento.

Club Connections is the newest night club in Sacramento. 2600 Auburn Blvd.

When I want to see live theater I go to the Studio Theater, (1028 R St., Sacramento, CA.), or the Sacramento Theater Company, (1419 H St., Sacramento, CA.).

If you are eating out and see a group of ladies wearing red hats and purple suits or dresses they are a group of ladies who meet once a month to eat out and discuss a book they have all just red. My mother belongs to this book club.

It is difficult to tell you about my home town because I couldn't tell you it all.

California State Railroad Museum is North America's largest railroad museum. It has more than visitors 500,000 a year. 111"I" Street, Sacramento, CA, 95814.

The Sacramento Zoo, is next to William Land Park. It has about 400 species of wildlife. You pay $6.50 to get into the park. You can see the Orangutan exhibit, snakes, lions, tigers and bears. The gift shop is at the gate. 3930 West Land Park Drive, Sacramento, CA.

Cal State Sacramento is our University and you might enjoy driving through it. 6000 J St, Sacramento, CA, 95819.

Fairytale Town is an amusement and a theme park. 3901 Land Park Drive, Sacramento, CA,95822.

There is also the Old Cemetery, the Discovery Museum and Space Center, Barton's Art Gallery, the Wells Fargo History Museum, the California State Indian Museum, The Matthew McKinley, (a paddle boat to give you a view of the city from the river) and Codfish Creek Trail, (that I use to hike on).

Restaurants:
Legendary Pioneer Bar
Legendary Pioneer Bar
The best places to shop or eat are on J & B streets, (These two streets feature lots of quaint shops and even a IMAX theater with lots of trendy restaurants), as well as the streets between 19th and 26th.

I like to eat at Fat City Bar & Café, (1001 Front Street), (The Rusty Duck (just off Interstate 5) and Crawdads On The River (off the Garden Highway).

If you are traveling with children you might like to try the fast food chain called Wendy’s or Southwestern Cheese Grill, (quesadilla and soft chicken tacos), and Vegetarians should try the angel hair pasta top with a mushroom sauce.

For lunch there are hamburgers that are unusual at the Ostrich Burger.

I also like to have steak at Cattlemen’s restaurant in Folsom. Near the Mission is a the Crepe Restaurant that I like to have lunch in.

A good place to have a drink is the Legendary Pioneer Bar, (built in 1876).

Other recommendations:
Sacranento Valley

If you like wine try some local wine:petite sirah, tempranillo, graciano, zinfandel, barbera, viognier and muscat blanc.

The Mission is built with adobe walls surrounding a central yard. A docent demonstrates the art of fur trapping (no animals were harmed for his demo). Other demonstrates a musket firing and you will find a blacksmith is hammering away in a room in a corner. .

If you like sports you can go to the ARCO arena, (and see the Sacramento National Basketball Association team, the Kings) or go to Raley Field. (to see the Oakland A's triple A baseball affiliate, the River Cats).

There are six large golf courses and a lot of public swimming pools, tennis clubs, bowling clubs and a few places that will rent you a horse to ride.

California is the "greenest" state in the Union because of The Helios Project's four goals are to generate clean alternatives to hydrocarbon fuels, develop new energy sources, improve energy conservation & to reduce greenhouse gas emi

Fat City has been a long time favortie (I went to CSUS), also DB Coopers! Old Town is always great! Great report - only missing all the rafting opportunities on the American River!

Interesting but too many factual errors, i'll send you a list. Are all the pictures your own photography? How about a seperate report on Lincoln, Placer County?

Del, now I know my way around. I like your pictures, specially the one of the Mission, Sacramento Valley must be beautiful. What do you mean by unusual Hamburgers?
