Great Time and Pub Tour/ Crawl in Savannah

  15 votes
The Savannah Haunted Pub & Club Crawl was awesome! Ghost stories and beer! Haunted locations! Period costumes! Bad jokes and puns! Odd historical stories! Strange Savannah!

As you can see, the girls in the group really bonded.

My wife and I recently spent some time travelling-- business called me away just as the Cardinals were entering the playoffs-- d'oh!-- so we decided to make a trip of it. We spent about a day and a half in several Southern cities, and took some tours in each city, but nothing compared to our experience in Savannah. We stayed at the Marshall House. Wow. Fabulous. But the tour we took in the evening was great. After a blah daytime trolley ride, we went on something called Savannah Haunted Pub & Club Crawl. I must say that it was the highlight of the trip. We knew it must be fun just by the brochure... my wife flipped it over and read their FAQ's and one of the questions towards the bottom was 'What is your best pick up line?' and the answer was 'Does this napkin smell like cloroform to you?'. Anyone goofy enough to put that on their brochure must be an interesting person with which to spend an evening. Our guide met us at Molly MacPherson's, a Scottish Pub. His name was Jamie Caskey, and he was dressed as a Confederate soldier (I know his first and last name because we wound up buying his book-- more on that later). After informing us that in Savannah, we could carry our drink with us as long as it is in plastic (ain't Savannah great?), we and five other couples started our tour. The stories had a great blend of hauntings, history and humor. He wove a picture of Savannah, complete with quirks, that had us all laughing and instantly at ease. This guy was not your average tour guide-- you know, gum-chewing 21 year old with a script-- this guy was a real student of history. I'm a history buff and my wife is a history professor, and we asked him some casual questions in between stories just to gauge his knowledge. He was really knowledgeable. I mean, the guy knew his stuff. We went to four pubs in all, and each one was unique. We had such a great time we wound up buying two copies of his book, which he autographed and personalized for us. All in all a fantastic tour.

Favourite spots:
Our camera malfunctioned so we had to retake this the next day. Or was the camera haunted?

A real highlight was a brewery in a former crumbling hotel (Moon River Brewing Company). Jamie even was featured on the Travel Channel, leading a tour through Moon River for one of their shows. My wife also liked the bar in the Marshall House.

What's really great:
A perfect blend of ghost stories and real history, with just enough humor for you unbelievers out there. You definitely must take this tour if you visit Savannah. Ask for Jamie, if he's available. He definitely made our trip memorable. The number for reservations is (912) 604-3007.

Accommodations:
The wonderful Marshall House. Also very haunted, according to our Confederate guide.

Thanks for your good info about Savannah. If I ever travel there I will make the tour through Moon River. But, where are the photos of Moon River?
