Ni Hao...? This is a new place for me and my wife with whom we were invited to visit. Everywhere we went, from the comfort of a private Villa and 3 personal chauffeurs with 3 top Benz models whizzing in & out into Shanghai some 40 kms away.

Shanghai Airport
Shanghai Airport
Shanghai airport from the air looks pretty large but that may perhaps be due to the scarcity of planes one would expect to see like at Schiphol, Heathrow or Ohare in Chicago.

This 1st visit is a personal & private one and we were both privileged to be in a unique company hosted by our dear sister and brother-in-law managing a large logistics company he set up there after HK & Beijing resp.

We stayed in their exclusive residential compound for Expatriates holding PR status which is also tightly monitored as security and the safeguarding foreigners and we found the peace and quiet assured with many more amenities that are given to residents living in the large villas like we were in. It is also located some 45 kms away from Shanghai main centre. Our daily trip is made possible by the availability of their three private chauffeurs (they regard as drivers) we have access to their own small fleet of MB luxury vehicles.

Hence, we have no experience moving about in Shanghai or Beijing in public transportation like bus or taxi either. We did find the privilege and sheer ease with comfort when one has a private driver to manage all the traffic concerns or headaches I certainly don't want to get caught up when touring this traffic madness cities which sometimes is obviously chaotic with ill tempers raging between motorists and pedestrians and slower bicycles... it can draw some laughs occasionally at what we personally witnessed.

Little can be cherished outside Shanghai city itself but we did at the Shanghai Racquet Club, which is close to the many foreign communities located within the various academic institutions catering the foreign students.

Within Shanghai and especially by the Bund and in the proximity of the Pudong district, is the place to be at for your nightly entertainment & shopping sprees. I shall add a slide as testimony to our stay in Spring 2008.

Favourite spots:
The Dragon Gate vicinity
The Dragon Gate vicinity
The Bund and eating out by the Dragon Gate vicinity, M-Restaurant along the HuangPu River, Kathleen's 5 rooftop Restaurant, Shanghai Racquet Club recreation & Gym workout incl. massage & for my hairdo by Ben himself.

What's really great:
Facing the lights of Shanghai by The Bund
Facing the lights of Shanghai by The Bund
The nightlife that abounds there and the many beers... I had my favorite Guinness Stout naturally and decided to stick to it... can't go wrong with Guinness!!!

Sights:
TaikangLu Street with many shops for young talents in Art
TaikangLu Street with many shops for young talents in Art
They have many Cultural areas & streets with small to large galleries where one can walk in or casually walk along many lined closely to each other. An interesting stroll and with some bargaining (you have to bargain in Shanghai....!!!) you get a good price that you can walk away happy at your purchase.

Accommodations:
The Great Wall Sheraton in Beijing
The Great Wall Sheraton in Beijing
We had our own private lodging in Shanghai and when we were in Beijing, our host arranged the Sheraton Beijing which was very good as a 5-Star with an incredible menu to cater both Asian & Western breakfast, there's enough to beef yourself to last till midnight!!! As for renting out on short terms or longer, you do need to contact local Agents and if peace and quiet is important for you, I don't advise anywhere within or close to the Pudong District, too much commotion all day & night long...!!!

Nightlife:
Luna Bar & Restaurant is a hip place to find the Shanghainese in their most kinky outfits.

If night life is important for you, the Pudong district is the place but certainly NOT the ideal location to get a place to put up, for it will kill you coping the noise and buzzling pollution it offers 24/24. Great to have friends visiting and treating them out, this is everyone's "must go to" if you have Shanghai in mind.

Hangouts:
Luna Bar & Restaurant with a Filipino Rock Band, The Friction performing.

Another popular night spot that is a sought after spot for fancy Cocktails & plenty of global faces to chat with is at the Baby Face night club or the Luna Bar & Restaurant in Shanghai.

Restaurants:

Had a fabulous meal and a scenic if not better described as a perfect panoramic view from the rooftop of the "M" Restaurant at the corner of Guangdong Lu (www.m-onthebund.com)

.I beg your pardon should you have noticed identical pictures appearing resulting in my failure to edit & replace with the appropriate snaps. Perhaps someday it shall be resolved and until that happens, I am beyond any means to amend, correct or improve, it is in the hands and tools found in this site which I have failed to overcome, if you are able to, pls inform the Owner(s) of GloboSapiens to come and assist me on this. Thank you sincerely and I also thank you for finding worthy in reading my simple disclosure on The Shanghai visit.

Other recommendations:
Poolside by The Shanghai Racquet Club
Poolside by The Shanghai Racquet Club
Shanghai Racquet Club is a great place to go relax and to sweat it out with the facilities they provide there. Ask for Ben and he'll take care of yr special cut both for men & ladies, his services include Massage and the outdoor facilities incl a small football field which is superb for the kids too although I saw many parents getting involved.
