The old, romantic Singapore doesn't exist anymore. You can't find the atmosphere of Maugham's and Kipling's novels, but there is a beautiful new metropolis , friendly and very clean, as everyone mentioned it before me. Very clean? I have to argue a bit about it. On the whole it’s clean. I’m obsessed to check the toilettes when I travel somewhere and I have a very high opinion of the rest rooms of Singapore. But when you live the main districts in the little back streets you can find plenty of dirt. Anyway it doesn’t matter, I enjoyed myself in Egypt and Turkey very much and they aren’t the cleanest countries at all. In Singapore the first thing what you have to do to accommodate to the very high temperature with very high humidity. If you like saunas, you will not have any problem. But I can assure you; to the end of the first day you’ll get use to it. The guidebooks recommend 3 days to spend in Singapore, but I found my 5 days to short to see everything I was interested in.

Nothing very particular. I like to walk on the streets day and night, watch people around me, and live the life of the natives if its possible .If I have to choose my favourite spots were Little India and the Arab Quarter.

| What's really great: |
|
What I really adored, the efficiency, and the cheapness of the public transport. I loved to travel buy bus and watching TV! This was the first country, where I was indulged and entertained on a bus.

| Sights: |
|
Back streets and temples in Little India and Chinatown, the Arab Quarter with some beautiful mosque, the Botanic Garden, the Zoo, to go to Sentosa Island by cable car. The island itself is too artificial.

| Accommodations: |
From budget guesthouses to the luxury hotels through the moderately priced hotels, there are plenty possible choices from $ 8.- for a dorm bed to $1,200.-in the Raffles Hotel.
Be careful in Little India. There are guesthouses to avoid because they are unwelcoming to Western visitors.

| Restaurants: |
You can choose a luxury restaurant, or something moderate(?)to go to the Boat Quay and have your diner at the most popular alfresco dining venue on the island ,or just simply drop in a food court, you'll have the same nutritious , fresh and tasty meal , only the price , the view and the tableware will differ.

| Other recommendations: |

The Colonial Singapore and a cruise to circling around the Southern Islands. The OCBC Centre. Go to the observation deck and you'll enjoy outstanding views.

It´s interesting to hear, that Singapore isn´t as clean as it is said to be! That makes this city a little more sympathic to me. Not that I like dirt, but a sterile invironment is as bad as a filthy one (((-: |

I like you picture of the toilets. It proves that I'm not the only one take pictures in such a place. The strangest thing I have ever seen was in Dar es Salaam. the toilet rol was locked with a pad lock. |
