A brief stay in Vancouver

Vancouver travelogue picture
Vancouver has a certain feel to it - welcoming and friendly. If I had to choose a city to live in, it would be here. It's not crowded anywhere near as much as cities such as London and it's only 2 hours drive from Whistler for skiing, walking, etc. The hostels are located in the red light district with plenty of people living on the street, but don't let that put you off - they don't bother you or get agressive. Most are quite friendly.

Favourite spots:

The Lennox Pub - good food, plenty of people and nice friendly waitresses Stanley Park - a really nice green area near the water. Lots of roller bladers along the seawall.

What's really great:

Vancouver was our first contact with Canada. The thing which struck me most was how friendly people were. The lack of traffic compared to London was also a very welcomed surprise.

Sights:

Stanley Park: A lovely park which needs at least one day to explore.
Harbour Centre building: A 360degree view of the city - worth a look.

Accommodations:

Global Village Backpackers: Colourful rooms. As my first Youth Hostelling experience, pretty good.
Hostelling International: I preferred this slightly to the Global Village, but as they are opposite each other, it makes no difference really.

Hangouts:

The Lennox Pub: Good food and friendly waitresses.
Roxy: Good food and music. Looks like they have retro evenings. According to the Rough Guide, it's where the people from the suburbs go.

Lovely photos, good details, nice job! I had a brief stay in Vancouver, too, and was also impressed by the friendliness of the people, how safe the streets felt, and lots of good vegetarian food!
