I always think it's so amazing how nobody outside of the United States has ever heard of Rick Steves' guidebooks: http://www.ricksteves.com for Europe!

His "backdoors" are rapidly becomming "frontdoors" as more and more readers discover his works, but I really appreciate the style of travel he advocates: find little places where you can have authentic experiences, and avoid becoming the "ugly American" by being open to other cultures & traditions.

Rick is opinionated, and tells it straight about what's worth seeing and what's not, considering your limited vacation time. I don't always agree on his assesments, but I have found him to be a reliable guide much more often than not... for Europe this year I traveled with his book and Lonely Planet, and did well between the two.
