When we first began tis discussion, we had a wider diversity in the ratings that were received on reports. Now, the membership seems to be more consistent. And, when we read the opinions of the remainder of those who share with us, we someties see their points of view and change accordingly. Without rating we would be using up a lot of time searching through junk too. With the star system, a viewer chooses to view from the top-rated or selected items on the lists to the deepest archives. While we have suggested rules for rating reports, I disagree that reports MUST have pictures in them. A balance yes is ideal. I like most Lucass recognition that reports should show USEFULLNESS to other other travellers. Ravi and James are on this exact same path remarking that EXCEPTIONS exist to plain-text reports. I hope and agree that this applies when members rate reports unbalanced with a text/picture ratio and that a text-only report can achieve *****, that is why it's called "report"! Imagine the other extreme option: a picture-only report should rather be submitted under "slide-show/album" Taking time for rating is important too although I admit to sometimes doing sudden gutt feeling ratings. With pictures the time to rate should be 5-20 seconds but for reports I hope members are taking 1-5 minutes! Whatever method, just RATING is important - when 10-20 members have rated, a pretty good AVERAGE value is achieved. Thats important!
