Bradford is regarded by some as an add-on to Leeds, its larger neighbour, grossly unfair. There is little connection between the two cities.
Bradford mushroomed from very little at the time of the industrial revolution. To Bradfordians its history is about worsteds, woollens being regarded as a bit down market!
It has one national museum [Photography, Film and TV] and some other interesting ones including a very early Industrial Museum, Bolling Hall [incongruously paced on the ring road] and the only Museum of Peace Studies in the country, closely related to the University. It is often regarded as the curry capital of the UK and enjoys an excellent curry website,
In 1974 it became the principle part of the new Bradford Metropolitan Borough, which includes Saltaire with the Salts Mill gallery largely given over to David Hockney’s work, Ilkley [as in Yorkshire’s ‘national anthem’ and Haworth, home of the literary Bronte sisters and with a museum at the parsonage where they lived.
