A Cistercian Abbey in the 13th century and retaining significant features, Buckland Abbey was owned as a house both by Sir Richard Grenville and Sir Francis Drake, famous Elizabethan mariners. There are many interesting memorabilia, a large barn dating from the house's monastic period and a delightful herb gerden.
