Monasterio de Santa Catalina |

Whatever the title may suggest, this is what in England we should call a nunnery or convent - i.e. a place for women dedicated to the church. There are still nuns living here but it was a considerable institution and it was expensive to get a novice admitted. It is like a minor town in itself. Do get a guide - very cheap and you will learn immeasurably more about bygone social customs.
