Rochdale Pioneers Museum |

I hovered between two and three thumbs here because the museum is small and will not seem worth 3 to everybody. I settled on 3, however, to draw the attention of anybody interested in social history, who is visiting the Greater Manchester area.
The Co-operative Movement worlwide now counts its membership in hundreds of millions and 31 Toad Lane, Rochdale, the site of this museum is where it all started. The bottom floor of a house was converted into a shop in the 1840s to sell a limited range of groceries and household articles at reasonable prices and for its members to share any profits.
The shop has been renovated to what it was at that time and there are also exhibitions about the Co-operative movement.
