Smeaton's Tower |
Situated on the historic Plymouth Hoe, Smeaton's Tower was originally a lighthouse on the Eddystone rocks, 14 miles out. On a really clear day something like a pencil shows way out - the 4th Eddystone lighthouse, a 19th century construction.
Smeaton's was the third lighthouse built during the 18th century and the history of all 4 is given in the website. The views from the top are great - but it's a narrow spiral to climb and meet people. NOT suitable for the physically disadvantaged.
