Look up 'gibbet' in a normal sized English dictionary and you won't find anything like this. This one was more like a guillotine and was used from the 13th to the 17th century, being famous and the reason for the felon's prayer, 'From Hell, Hull [transportation,] and halifax Good Lord deliver us.
