Erewan - Armenia, Yerevan
The cathedral Etschmiatsin, kown as the centre of the armenian-gregorian church, also is one of the first christian churches of the world. Legend tells us that Jesus Christ came from heaven to show the place of the foundation. It was built in the beginning of the 4th century during the time of the first armenien catholicos Gregory, the enlightener. I came in during mass, read in the present of the catholicos, and was overwhelmed by this outside quite simple, but inside gorgeously painted and adorned church, built during the time of the Persians. A rich church, during soviet times restricted to the minimum, but got back its property after the fall of the Sovietunion.
