I don't remember the colour of the train, I am too lazy to look through my slides to find out. But ... the train exists, offering all the conveniences a traveller can wish for: an observation car, a dining car, a bar, a Lady's room with lavatory, shower, couch, dressing table. It leaves Fairbanks 9.30 a.m., arrives at Mt. McKinley Station 13.10 p.m. In the bar I meet a lively, 50 years old woman, who burried her husband, sold her house to work as a cook in a goldminer's camp. Suddenly the train stops - at a point where you you become nervous only to look out of the window, one side an abyss, on the other a steep rockwall, you can't see the sky -. The barkeeper asks the men for help who without hurry climb out of the train to move a rock from the small track into the ravine. Alaska certainly is worth a journey by train - at least in 1980!
