Hello, Herr Wiedehopf (that's hoopoe in German) - thanks for your kind serious attempts to answer all my stupid questions! :)

krisek - Apr, 02 2009 04:04am
Petra, there are no stupid questions... there could only be stupid answers. :)

This looks like the cartoon bird, the roadrunner!! Jill will know.

krisek - Apr, 02 2009 04:04am
Tony, the roadrunner was an ostrich, I think. Much larger, faster (!), and could not fly, hehe. Well, the hoopoe looks like it has difficulty flying, too - its flight is erratic, almost looks like a butterfly.

I'm afraid I must disagree Krys check out www.desertusa.com it come from the Usa & Mexico where I'm pretty sure there are no wild ostriches, there may be some angry ones though! hehe.

krisek - Apr, 02 2009 05:04am
Tony, hehe. Perhaps it was just a fictional figure in the cartoon, then. In Polish the series were translated and the bird was called 'rapid ostrich' or something similar to that effect. But the character had long legs, long neck and it definitely did not fly... :)

You have just shattered my childish illusions Krys, thank heaven that Father Xmas and fairies are real!! hehe.

krisek - Apr, 02 2009 05:04am
Tony, when you say Father Christmas, do you mean Santa Claus? I know that one of them is real... ;)

jacko1 - Apr, 02 2009 05:04am
Same person different name, I know he is real, I've seen him on the Coca Cola adverts! hehe. Are you referring to St Nicolas from Turkey?.

krisek - Apr, 02 2009 06:04am
I thought he was from Lapland...

jacko1 - Apr, 02 2009 06:04am
He only goes there to pick up his toys for Xmas..........

bineba - Apr, 02 2009 09:04am
There's definitely a bird called Roadrunner in the US, I've seen them in the desert in California. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Roadrunner

Yippee! I have an ally.

aufgehts - Apr, 02 2009 10:04am
Yes Tony, there is a roadrunner. I've seen them too, and they look very much like this guy but a little bigger. This guy looks like he has much more personality, too.
