Anchor House is right in the centre of the small town of Newport and overlooks Newport River. An arched railway viaduct spans the river, but the last train crossed it in 1936. The viaduct now offers an interesting walk with views of the river on both sides.
Anchor House is a 2-storey bungalow-type house in a large garden where guests can sit on sunny days. The rooms are very comfortable with soft wall-to-wall carpets and fluffy duvets in flower-patterened covers. The en-suite bathroom is tiny but still there is space to put toiletries. A full Irish breakfast is served in a tastefully furnished breakfast room.
The big bonus of this B&B is the guests' lounge with an open fire and easy chairs. The perfect place to put your feet up after a country walk.
We paid €35 p.p. (2007) which was most reasonable for a comfortable stay.
