Proeflokaal translates as tasting bar. They are places that specialise in wine, liqueur or beer and date back to 17th century. This was a time of great wealth, merchant traded with the east and money jingled intheir pockets. In order to increase sales of wine and liqueur, merchants were invited to taste the product.
