It is not the magnitude of our actions but the amount of love that is put into them that matters.

Your other reports are good too but your comming back home to Sringeri is very special and so loved by readers when looking at all the comments. Thank you! India is on a lot of travellers "wish list" thanks to members like you and others from there.

Ramayana
Posted: 2006-03-28 11:41 PM
Akhila,
I am writing about Kathakali dancing, which tells the story of the Ramayana.
There is one thing I am not sure about. Who is Sita?
Is she Rama's wife? As far as I know Rama is the seventh incarnation od Vishnu.
Is this the Ramayana in a nutshell?
Ravan, king of Lanka, abducted Sita. The Ramayana is the story about Rama's struggle to get his wife back.
I can only use one line to explain the Ramayana.

more words
Posted: 2006-03-24 01:00 PM
Akhila,
I just looked up the other words for which offerings could be made:
karimkalasam
ootu vellattam
payamkutti vellatam
payamkutti
Are these also deities?

Akhila,
When you say native of southern India do you mean Tamil Nadu? (Because you speak that language)

Akhila,
Thanks for your explanation. There were more offerings that could be made. I'll look up the words so that you maight explain them to me.
What a shame for Vishnu that he is a lesser deity and therefore gets smaller offerings. But I suppose deities don't mind.
I know that theyyam is also a tribal cult/performance, but I was limited in words when writing the report. Do you think my exolanation was clear enough?

Gokarna
Posted: 2006-03-16 06:19 AM
Akhila,
Thanks for reading my Gokarna report. I know what the name Gokarna means, and did not want to include it as I had already used up de quota of words.
I didn't know that Mahabaleshwar temple was destroyed later rebuilt.
Neither did I know why Car Street was named Car Street. There was also a car street in Udupi. And I meant to ask someone from India what the reason was. You gave me the answer, thank you.
I suppose you are Indian because you speak Hindi and Tamil. From which part of India are you?

Time off!
Posted: 2006-03-01 04:46 PM
Akhila,
Yes - that is my folk dancer - he got a gold medal in this competition - his third! Nimble feet!
I know what it is like to have limited time off. I have the cursed Blackberry, so even when I am away, I am expected to check and respond to e-mails, etc. I envy Europeans who seem to have a much more balanced approach, taking 4 - 6 weeks a year. I earn 4 weeks off a year, but am never able to take it all.
Enjoy your trip, as I am sure you will! Family is so important. I am looking forward to mine - we booked our camels this morning!
Much Joy,
Eire

Still Around!

Hi Akhila,
The firm I work for has 107 companies and we do our own tax returns, so this is our busiest time of year! Plus my son, 11, folk dances and his big competition each year is held in mid-February. Not much time for anything else ;(
We are going to India on August 25th, returning on Sept 10th. I am so excited about this trip! I have been facinated by everything I have read so far!
You must be looking forward to your trip ~ it must be hard to be so far away from family and friends. I look forward to hearing abut it when you return!
