Greek Independence Day!

Posted: 2006-03-25 03:02 PM
Isabelle,
Thank you for uploading your wonderful Accropolis photos this morning - today is Independece Day in Greece so it is very appropriate. I am now leaving to watch my son perform Greek Dances in celebration!

Hi Isabelle
Did you notice we have a woman from Arequipa just joined. I sent her a welcome message in what i hope might pass as Spanish and told her of your recent photos of Arequipa - and of our taxi ride into the suburbs.
Cheers

The petroglyphs

Posted: 2006-03-20 08:41 PM
It's me again. I love to find petroglyphs. They seem to be everywhere. There are many places here in the Pacific Northwest where the ancient Indians have carved designs into the rocks. There are also many places in New Mexico with petroglyphs. It seems to be a world-wide phenomenon. The ancient beginings of Art. The problem is preserving them against vandalism.

Thanks for photo comment

Hi Isabelle,

Yes, the entire area around Las Vegas was once a prehistoric sea. The only part left is Lake Mead, and I think that the lake is formed by a dam. I posted a photo of Echo Bay marina, and in the distance you can see a white line along the shore, that shows how much the water level has dropped. 70 feet in the last decade!
The multicolored layers of sediment are quite visible in the cliffs, as well as huge pieces of the land that were raised by prehistoric volcanic activity. It's a geologic wonder, to be sure!

I just wanted to say thanks for your comments on my Osaka report which won ROM. It took a lot of work but it's nice to be noticed for it. I hope you find all my reports as interesting as my Osaka report!

Post direct to THEMES?

Posted: 2006-03-16 03:23 PM
Hi Isabelle,
you really did EXPLORE Peru more than most of us others!

Thanks for your continuing support in the photographic "THEME" thing Isabelle. You and any member can post an URL (link) directly in the Forum (no need to send me the finding), that saves time for me and shows us all who is REALLY interested in each subject. Alternatively, collect URLs for the various themes and send me the list once a month via "contact". I will revise "THEME: reflection" soon, there are ~50pics to add. Most work is to check the current ratings of the previously submitted pictures occasionaly so that the best picture is listed first.

"THEME: underwater" started by Maurice is a good example as to how GLOBO scuba-divers can get together. How about "THEME: trains" soon. If you like, create it and I'll help. You could then host it by adding and specially updating the first entry regularly? I have about 15 train pics to contribute, other than your 11 so the time is now right.....

Mess with me... :-)

Hi Isabelle

Thank you for your kind comment on my elephant close up pic.

This huge elephant came strolling up to our tent at siesta time (after lunch) in Moremi Game Reserve. So I was standing face to face with this huge animal, my only weapon being my camera with the short lens :-)

Luckily enough this shot turned out to be technically satisfying. So it's both a very nice shot to look at and a emotional adventure to take it.

Thans for bothering to comment :-)

Have a great day
