Closed forever

Adam,
The murals will be closed forever. When they were found in 1947, the rooms were filled with rock and the murals were in perfect condition. Early photos show their full beauty. The damp rain forest climate has been the culprit. These are painted in a thin colored stucco which is being "eaten" by mold and mildew.
There is a dispute with the Lakadon Mayan tribe whose land they sit on because it brings revenue to these people. The site is small and the rest of the ruins are unexceptional. Bonampak is so far out of the way though that they only get a couple of visitors a day. We had it all to ourselves the day we went.
It is a shame - they tell so much about Mayan life!

Adam,
I am glad you enjoyed the photos of the Mayan murals. They were a challenge to take - no flash and very small dark rooms. In 2009 they will be closed off to preserve them so I am glad to have been able to see them now!
You have posted some terrific shots!

travel tips

Good travel tips for Prague. When I visit next I will go to the Mucha museum, because last time the weather was too nice and we didn't want to be indoor.
Thanks for all your info about Poland. I found out that it is best to travel from Katowice to Prague, or rather Kutna Hora.
Just two more questions.
1. Is there anything to see in katowice?
2. Are there long queues at the railway station to get tickets?

Adam,
Thanks a lot for your information, very useful. I have no further questions at the moment. We will also go to Wroclow, is that interesting? From there we are going to the Czech Republic. (by train)

Katowice

Adam,
Thanks for you prompt answer. It is a bit difficult to book seats on the direct bus because i do not know if we will arrive on time. So I think I 'll just hope places are left when we arrive.
I looked at some kind of train route planner and found many trains from Katowice to Krakow. Do I have to go to Krakow Glowny?
Is this the official site of Polish trains? http://rozklad.pkp
or do you know a better one?

thanks and question

Hi Adam,
Thanks for reading my Ireland report. Fuschias are beautiful, and make the roadside very attractive.
This is my question:
How do I get from Katowice airport to Krakow? Do I travel first to Katowice and then by train or are there direct buses from the airport to Krakow? And how long will the journey take?
(I will fly to Katowice on 7 aug)

Hey Adam
It's nice to see you uploading pictures.
This is how I remember Prague; spending the evening just walking around. You have uploaded some lovely night shots.
Well done.
