Boca Raton - United States, Florida Shishi Odoshi - the deer chaser - the sound made when bamboo strikes a rock is said to chase pests, and particularly deer, from the garden. Water flows into and fills a bamboo pipe. When the weight is sufficient, the pipe falls and empties, then springs back into position with the back end striking the rock.
