Berlin - Germany, Berlin Originally conceived by Prussian king Frederick William III as a neighborhood devoted honoring arts and sciences, the north end of a peninsula between the Spree River and a canal is now home to 5 museums built between 1830 and 1930. In the latter half of the 20th C and ongoing, they have been reconstructed after WWII damage.
The Pergamon is the most famous, drawing up to 1 million visitors a year, and the newest completed in 1930. It has three major divisions = Classical Antiquity, Islamic Art, and Ancient Middle Eastern Art.
The Museum is included in the Berlin State Museum Pass, one of the great bargains of the travel world, complete with a comprehensive audio guide.
