The Great Synagogue's by siffer

Budapest - Hungary, Budapest The Great Synagogue is the second largest in the world, space for 3000 worshipers. Built during the reign of Austro-Hungarian emperor Joseph II in the late 19th C, and later enlarged, it would be a radio center and housed offices of Adolf Eichman during WWII. Destroyed at the end of the war, contributions from the United States - Estee Lauder, actor Tony Curtis - led to a reconstruction in the 1990's. The ornate west facade is almost Moorish in appearance with domes and long arched windows with gold ornaments. The room behind the rose window was Eichmann's office. The towers are almost 50 feet high with green domes. The brickwork is yellow and red, the colors of Budapest.
