Hi Folks
Sorry I don't agree with this discussion. Why should we honour a person for his travelling activity?
Globosapiens in my understanding is a place for sharing what you encountered and lived through in your travels. Every member that shares his/hers experiences is a important member for globosapiens.
This place is a great place for open minded people that have fun to share expericences and enjoy reading, watching and commenting about others contributions or even making friends all over the world.
And I hope that it will stay the same and not grow into a rat race of who is the greatest traveller! All this discussions puts the focus away from the really important thing, that everybody here can and should share and contribute to our community.
Moreover the discussions about who the greatest member is always is too personal and ends with mischiefous votes or other punishments when somebody offers his views of a particular person.
Just my oppinon!
Leave GLOBO the way it is, sit back realx and enjoy, develop your personal site, make friends and be friendly!
Martin --- Today is the first day of the rest of your life, enjoy it!

A very good view Martin. Some contribute more, others less and we can only upload a small part of our travel experiences, so comparison is very difficult! There is no doubt that the four members mentioned above have all covered extreme milage this year, all four should equally be honoured. Regardless of how much uploaded, ALL who contribute something at GLOBO can be considered winners too.
Thanks!

Martin,
You are absolutely right. All members are equally important no matter how many kilometres they travelled. Besides there may be many more GLOBI's who have travelled more than the four nominees, but still have to write about it.

Two points.
1. I agree with those who don't like the idea of making travel into a contest. There is too much acrimony now over the things that are contested and it would be a shame to make travel itself into the same type of thing. Let's resolve instead to treat the existing contests as fun and encouragement again
2. If such a decision IS to be made, however, I should certainly not want to be considered. I agree totally that my travel, whilst it is very important to me and gives me great pleasure, is not adventurous - because the condition of my heart doesn't allow for it to be. If I'm not careful I find myself regretting that I didn't do more adventurous things when I could have done - but I hate doing this.
With travel, as with life itself, I believe it is pointless to grieve over what you can't do or didn't do but to rejoice at what you can do and to do what you can.
Happy New Year to ALL.

As tempting as it is to want to honor a Globie as Traveler of the Year, I agree with David and Marianne. Exactly what would the criteria be? Where does a Misty or Gloriajames fit on this list? Or Kailas? How do you rate travel? Sometimes the best tip is a little known shop in Paris or a favorite restaurant in San Francisco. David's reports are fantastically useful to a more casual traveler. And Dani, Wojtekd and Jorge have the one of the richest luxuries of all - TIME.
Lastly, just in reading a couple of the comments here, there have been disparging remarks made. Jorge is not traveling on some luxury cruise line, and even if he had been, that doesn't make his trips less fascinating to me. David's travels, whether with a group or otherwise, are still a pleasure to share. Let's enjoy the bounty that we have here at Globo rather than find another way to rate it.

Eirekay, thanks for your participation in this forum. Just to tell you that I did not mean to make disparage remarks about other’s travellers when I gave my opinion in this forum. Sorry if I offered that impression, it was not my intention. What I wanted to say is that there is a difference in travelling “as a tourist” (organized tours, cruises, etc.) which is very respectable, and “as a traveller”, alone, in an adventurer way, with your backpack, without bookings of hotels, improvising all the time along your way through Africa, India, South America, etc. Both systems are OK for appropriate people. I prefer the second one, the Dani’s way. I know that David reports are the best, or ones of the best (in my opinion) in Globo. We had a writer in Spain (unfortunately he died no long ago): Camilo Jose Cela, who received the Nobel Prize of literature a few years ago. He wrote a travel book called “Viaje a la Alcarria” (Travel to La Alcarria). La Alcarria is in La Mancha Spanish autonomy, very close to Madrid, just at a few dozens kilometres distance from his house. But this book is considered a master piece in Spanish travel literature. So you do not need to travel too far to write a good travel book or report.
But I was referring to travel adventure, and in this respect Dani odyssey in Africa is extraordinary. From here I wish him Happy New Year in Djibouti and safe return to Spain.

Surely we can all agree with Isaac's last sentiments! A Happy New Year to Dani and a safe conclusion to his wonderful trip.
