Beijing, the ancient, the capitol, the center of China. Beijing can be considered a really big city maybe not for skyscrapers but it is for it enormous territorial extension. I've been in not so much cities bigger than Beijing. Sometimes ancient, sometimes modern, sometimes Comunist style, everytime alive and plenty of millions of Chinese people moving all around going everywhere. Beijing is a first example of what China is ... you will never be alone!!

Favourite spots: |
The forbidden City, for sure, is a must see in Beijing. It´s really a fortified city inside another bigger city. Temples, palaces, neverending gardens, fountains, govern buildings, chambers, houses ... Now is plenty of art areas, museums and expositions. The great walls (Simatai, Badaling, Mutianyu, Huanghua...) are also a more than great thing. just amazing is go there and wait for the sunset, no words to describe that. Tiananmen square and gate, the old town, the summer palace, the lama temple, the heaven temple, etc... is a neverending explanation of things to visit and do in Beijing.

What's really great: |
All china is realy special but Beijing specially special. I just went there and i really enjoy it. But if i have to choose one i choose the Great wall at HuangHua section. Isn't yet reconstructed is one of the sections where you can see the original wall without modern intrusion. Not too much people goes there cause is the farthest section and it makes you feel like alone just the wall and you.

Sights: |
For a great sights of the old city you can go to the old commercial streets and quarter south of the Forbidden city. There are several examples of ancient architecture hard to find much longer in Beijing. Going south from the forbidden city and after the Quianmen gate turn right and you will go inside an old and alive quarter plenty of commercial activity, restaurants, shops, artesany, etc...

Accommodations: |
I was at the "Far East Youth Hostel" and i really think that is the best hostel in beijing. 45 Yuen/ night and really near of tiananmen inside the old quarter are enough reasons to stay there. There are also other hostels but some don´t accept foreigners and some others are farther, at the third city ring.

I found that most of Beijing looked like buildings in Russia. The newer ones were a bit better. |
