Of the many wonderful visits to Venezuela that I have taken, a simple day trip from my resort to the village of Kavak was one of the most pleasant. I enjoyed the visit so much the first time that I decided to go back on two successive years. Kavak is a village in the jungles of Venezuela. It is located inside of Parque Nacional Canaima, in the state of Amazonas. There are only 40 residents of this village, and they are all of indigenous heritage (from the Pemon tribe). All of the people in the village live by means of hunting/gathering, just as their ancestors did. Since 1995, the government has negotiated a tour through the village and its environments. About 20 people per month are permitted to make the trip. Those who go on the trips are led through the jungle to a cave, which contains a large waterfalls inside it.

Favourite spots: |
One of the great aspects to the visit to Kavak is passing by the location of Salto Angel (Angel Falls), the highest waterfalls in the world. The waterfalls makes a single drop of 1001 meters.

What's really great: |
I enjoyed traveling to the cave. Also, consider that less than 2000 in history (other than the local residents) have ever been to the site. This puts a visitor in very exclusive company.

Kavak Cave - the major reason for the visit
Remember, this is a village of only 40 people. They have only one small electrical generator, which is used for less than 3 hours per day.
