desert sanit

from edfu eastwards you travel about 70 km on the modern road till sidi salem , the cross road to shathli take you to the breth teaking wendug road southword till you reach the lonsome village of shathli

Favourite spots:
the most amazing spot is the tomb and mosque of sidi abu el hassan, the mount Hafafit and the old roman wells along the road would take you to the old days of the roman emperor.

What's really great:
once a year a big feast is held in the small village on the memory of sidi abu el hassan, pillgrems from varius part of upper egypt travell there to spend 3 days . the colorful desert carnaval is unforgetable

Sights:
best offer in visiting shathli is to have a car a 4WD is of caurse better and one gets good offers in hurgada-luxur and aswan , but it is also possible for low budgeters who would like to see somthing uniqe. starting from the old roman roads passing through some pre historic sites to the old mienining sites and the brethtaking wildlife watshing.

Accommodations:
if you are very lucky, you may get a place to sleep in on of the sufis hostels, but during the mulid ( festival) it is impossible, it is recomended to have a good tent to sleep in the outer skirts of the village, but beware of snakes in sommer and big faltshers in winter, the pillgrems of the nile vally have the habit of bringing cows and sheeps and slouther them there , the remains of this are good food for many hungry desert animals so be ware.

Nightlife:
in such a small remote place it is hard to talk about entertanment in since of clubs , during the festival there is more going , but afterwords it is the unbroken silnce

Hangouts:
one small shop in the village covers the margin needs of the abbadi bedwins, you may find canned juce, tee, coffe and milk .
but during the festival the list ist a bit longer but no alkohol since it is a muslim event.

Restaurants:
bringing your food and drinks is the best offer, even during the fest times you never know how clean is the food or how fresh it is , and since there is no resturants so it is better to have your owen stuff .

Other recommendations:
afte some days in mountains it is surely nice to dump your self in the fresh clear water in marsa alam on the red sea coast 80 km east of the village
